Would you like to hear a poem .
Its a poem from John Wordsworth
here it starts .
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high over valleys and hills,
When all at once i saw a crowd,
a host , of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake , beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
and twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never – ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
ten thousands saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
the waves beside them danced ; but they
out – did sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed — and gazed — but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
for often , when on my couch, I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
and my heart with pleasure fills,
and dances with the daffodils.
would you like to hear it in his voice ?
so watch and hear it on
Dear Yash,
I love poems & I love flowers. Have you read some of the poetry of
Walter de la Mare:
1)My old horse Dobbin out at grass
2) A boy’s will is the wind’s will [I may be wrong on the poet here]
e.e.cummings: Spring
William Carlos Williams : Red Wheelbarrow
Edgar Allan Poe; Bells
Alfred Tennyson ; so many
Some will say these are not for someone as young as you are but I say that poems are meant to be read aloud by the WHOLE family, to savour the rhythm, sounds and the flavors of the English language.
Arthur Conan Doyle wrote LYRICAL prose, and when I was your age, I remember reading transfixed with wonder his HISTORICAL ROMANCES. Do ask your Daddyji to read aloud SIR NIGEL, a little bit each day. I hope you will both enjoy the experience.
Speaking of rhythm & music in language, Sanskrit, and Chaandasa, the language of the Vedic age are quite remarkable in their power & beauty. We should take care to not lose touch with our roots & also not lose our inheritance of this amazing body of literature as pure literature.
One easy way of accessing some popular Sanskrit works is through the hymns written by great composers. Since they were written to be remembered easily, they are rhythmic and have musical and other beautiful qualities. One can dance to them and a beautiful film, VANAJA [or something similar in name, set in Andhra Pradesh ] has been made using a hymn as a background. You can ask your mother to bring that film and show you. It tells the story of a very poor young girl and how she struggles to create a life for herself and become a dancer.
Another day, we might discuss flowers, and how you can grow a few on your own balcony or even bedroom.
Be well.
